2026 Parade Grand Marshals
Albert & Helen Ryun
The Mayview Lions Club is proud to announce that Albert and Helen Ryun have been selected as the 2026 Mayview Picnic Parade Grand Marshals. This year marks the 130th annual Mayview Picnic, a treasured community tradition set to take place on Saturday, July 11. The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the Mayview Lions Club.
Albert and Helen Ryun, longtime rural Mayview residents known for their dedication to family, farming and community service, have been selected as parade marshals for the 2026 Mayview Picnic Parade.
The Ryuns have lived on their farm in rural Mayview for 35 years, carrying on a way of life that began early for both of them. Albert was raised on a farm in Dover, while Helen grew up on farms in the Lexington and Higginsville areas. Today, Albert continues to farm, growing corn, beans and hay, along with raising cattle.
Helen retired last year after 44 years of operating an in-home daycare. Over more than four decades, she cared for hundreds of children, including many from the second generation of families she had served.
Albert and Helen have been married for 47 years. Their family includes Jeff Ryun and Jamie Umhoefer, Rebecca and Nathan Thomas, Melissa and Grant Kuhlmann, and Russell Ryun. They are also the proud grandparents of nine grandchildren, all living in the Odessa School District. Much of Albert and Helen’s time is spent cheering on their grandchildren at sporting events, plays, and other activities.
The Ryuns are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Higginsville and have long been active in the Mayview community. Albert serves on the Mayview Fire Board and the Mayview Special Road District Board. Helen has served on the Mayview MO Foundation Board, including seven years as president, and remains an active member. She also serves with the Mayview Fire Ladies Auxiliary and the Mayview Picnic Committee.
Together, Albert and Helen have helped with fundraising projects and efforts to improve the Mayview area. Helen is also known for giving back by donating pans of her famous homemade cinnamon rolls, which have helped raise funds for numerous events and organizations in Mayview. In recent years, the community has seen steady progress, including the addition of a food pantry, community garden, two event centers, new homes and other projects. A new restaurant is also expected to open soon.
The annual Mayview Picnic remains one of the community’s most anticipated traditions, bringing together families, friends and neighbors for a weekend of small-town celebration. Friday night begins the picnic with the annual Mayview MO Foundation fish fry, music and dancing at the Mayview School. Saturday begins with breakfast served by the 40-Ville 4-H Club, followed by the Mayview Lions Club tractor cruise, games in the park, a quilt show, antique tractor and engine show, bounce houses, horse rides, Odessa Optimist train rides, a baby contest and the parade. Visitors can also enjoy treats like snow cones and kettle corn along with food served from the cook shack by the 40-Ville 4-H Club before the evening ends with live music in the park.
The weekend concludes Sunday with church in the park hosted by the Ministerial Alliance, followed by a pie auction and potluck lunch hosted by the Mayview Lions Club.
When the Ryuns are not serving the community or spending time with family, Albert enjoys anything involving Massey tractors, while Helen enjoys quilting and traveling.
As parade marshals, Albert and Helen Ryun represent the spirit of Mayview — hardworking, community-minded and deeply rooted in the traditions that bring the town together year after year.
